Filadelfia and Fernheim
A community in an extreme setting
Two or three chosen museums, not all of them. A conversation with someone connected to the colony, and Mennonite and Chaco cuisine as part of the story.

Central Chaco · Filadelfia · Paraguay
History, production, nature and horizons that never end.
The Chaco brings together what is hard to find together anywhere else: Mennonite history, an extraordinary productive transformation, the memory of the Chaco War, an extreme nature and the silence of its great open spaces.
We do not try to show “the whole Chaco”. We stay in Central Chaco, with Filadelfia as a base and with people able to open their doors: someone who knows Fernheim from within, someone who works the land, someone who makes a fortín speak, and a naturalist who knows when to stay silent.
The layers
Each one told by someone who lives it or knows it deeply.
A community in an extreme setting
Two or three chosen museums, not all of them. A conversation with someone connected to the colony, and Mennonite and Chaco cuisine as part of the story.
Where prosperity comes from
Cattle, dairy, crops and water management, explained by someone who makes the decisions. With a host, context and conversation.
A single visit, well told
The Chaco War with a specialist: the territory, the water, the logistics and the people who fought there. Rigorous, human and respectful.
Silence, distance, openness
Wetlands, birds and wildlife at dawn or dusk and, when the sky allows, the Chaco night as a grand finale.
How it is lived
At a pace that respects its distances and its heat. This is how a first outline is arranged; yours is adjusted to you.
From Asunción, in a suitable vehicle and with well-planned rests. Never a round trip in a single day.
Filadelfia and Fernheim with an identified host, few stops and time to talk. The table also tells the story.
A real working visit —cooperative, farm, cattle ranch or industry— with the person who decides.
Fortín Boquerón with a specialist, the time needed to understand the place and a rigorous, human and respectful account.
Nature at dawn or dusk, never at midday. And if the sky cooperates, the Chaco night.
Our approach to access
Every working visit has a host who explains decisions, risks, innovation and scale. We do not want a commercial tour: we want you to understand how people work in the Chaco today, not just how its past was lived.

A private reserve of about 4,000 hectares belonging to the Chortitzer Cooperative, in the wetlands of the Yacaré Sur stream. A wooden birdwatching viewpoint, sunsets over the water and a night under the stars.
ExtensionBahía Negra · Alto Paraguay

A reserve of about 14,600 hectares belonging to Guyra Paraguay, reachable only by boat from Bahía Negra. Canoeing, interpretive trails and photography, with wildlife such as the jaguar, the marsh deer and the giant anteater.

Formats
Starting points, not packages. Pace, accommodation, table, language and companions are adjusted to you. The contrast with the rest of the country is its strength: after the river, the Missions and Alto Paraná, a completely different Paraguay.
Filadelfia and Fernheim, a working experience, Fortín Boquerón and nature at dawn or dusk. Without hurry.
More production, more nature, more table and more time with the hosts. For the traveller who does not want to rush.
Sunrises with an ornithological guide and time for photography. The route is defined by the season.
Access, the state of the roads, working visits and wildlife watching depend on the season and are confirmed for each departure.

Always at hand. A small detail that changes everything in the Chaco.
Roads measured honestly and well-planned rests between each experience.
Planned in advance for weather or road conditions, with the same care.
What we give up
They are part of the journey only when there is a proposal authorised and led by the community itself, with control over content, photographs, group sizes and income. Never as an automatic stop. An example of a community-led proposal is Yshir Villages.
The Chaco is not discovered by what there is to see, but by whom you get to know.
